2010 is a year the Cowboys from Hell franchise is happy to have behind them. Filled with controversy and short-comings, the team hit a record low. Manager Jeff “Venom” Varnum is approaching the 2011 season with a renewed vigor and a feeling that he has a lot to prove.
Lending an enormous hand to the Cowboys roster is the addition of Joe Mauer, acquired in the dispersal draft that resulted from the retirement of friend and former FFBL manager Shawntendo. Mauer immediately becomes the most valuable player on the roster. After Mauer come the franchise’s prized building blocks Colby Rasmus and Madison Bumgarner.
Joining Bumgarner are Aroldis Chapman, Mike Leake, Chris Sale, and Zach Britton. These fresh arms primed to form the foundation of a respectable starting rotation as soon as this season.
Joining Rasmus in the field is the team's latest addition, Ike Davis. Davis is expected to provide some much-needed pop. Soon to be joining them in the everyday lineup are up-and-coming bats Ryan Kalish, Brent Morel, and Matt Joyce.
Balancing out the youth are serviceable veteran presences. Capable hitters Miguel Montero, Howie Kendrick and Edwin Encarnacion will likely hold down starting jobs to begin the season. Anchoring the pitching rotation are seasoned arms Randy Wolf, Chris Capuano and Nick Blackburn.
In addition to this, the Cowboys from Hell franchise still boast a projectable troop of prospects. Not all of the aforementioned players have graduated to the majors yet, and there is still deeper talent in Wilmer Flores, Michael Choice, Martin Perez and Matt Moore.
Also present on the roster are players who have flirted with major league stardom and formerly highly touted prospects. Chris Davis, Brandon Wood, Cameron Maybin and Mat Gamel are all players who haven’t lived up to their promise. If 2011 proves to be a prosperous year for them, it could elevate the Cowboys to the middle of the pack—and prime them for a breakout season in the not so distant future...
The projected starting lineup to the right showcases the plan for the 2014 season. The 25 player roster boasts an average age of 26.9 years.
